FAQ
Questions, answered
The short version. If something is missing, the coach can help inside the app.
What is Metabo?
A fasting timer, a food and body log, and an AI coach that share one set of numbers. It helps you build an eating rhythm you can keep, and shows you from your own data whether it is working.
Is it free?
Metabo is free to start on the web. You can use it as a guest without an account, or create a free account to save your data online.
Where should I start if I have never fasted?
At 12:12: finish dinner, and eat breakfast twelve hours later. Most people stay there for two to three weeks before stepping up. The coach suggests the next step when your numbers show it is easy.
Can I drink anything during a fast?
Water, black tea and black coffee. Aim for plenty of water, and keep coffee to one or two cups. Anything with calories, including milk and sugar, ends the fast.
Will I lose muscle?
Some weight lost on any diet can be muscle. Metabo sets a daily protein target and encourages strength training to help keep it, and if your scale measures it, tracks fat and muscle separately so you can see.
Who should not use the fasting features?
Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, with a history of disordered eating, with type 1 diabetes, taking insulin or sulfonylureas, under 18, or underweight. The app checks this before making a plan. See the Safety page for more.
Does the coach give medical advice?
No. It does not diagnose, read lab results or suggest changes to medicines. It answers questions about your fasting, food and progress from the data you logged, and sends you to your doctor for anything medical.
What happens to my data?
As a guest, it stays on your device. With an account, it is saved online so you can use it across devices, and only you can read it.
Is there a phone app?
iPhone and Android apps are on the way. Until then, Metabo works in your phone’s browser.
